Whats new for the new year?

Some people go for vacation for the long weekend. My plans for a long vacation or across to Jb for that matter was cancelled due to alot of procrastination.

But well... Coming into new year was fun for me.

28 Dec

Mini retreat to Batam. Did shopping and body massage there. Cheap and refreshing.

Just clean retreat with a couple of friends. Quite amazing at how Batam has transformed from a sleazy front into more commercial port. Bought a couple of really bargained stuff.

refer here for more batam activities done

29 Dec

Work. Clearing up stuff before going into a long wekend.

30 Dec

Volunteered for Eye ē City at Bras Basah. Doing Registration Counter. Quite fun. Made new friends... learned new stuff.

Ended at 10pm.

31 Dec 06 & 1 Jan 07

(31 Dec, am)

Hari Raya Haji. Did my prayer in the morning at the mosque. Volunteer again. This time at Al Huda Mosque for Korban.

Fun experience. Not that I'm inhumane. Its just knowing for fact that i'm doing it for my religion and contributing to society thru my volunteering. Especially so when you do it sincerely.... (Pahala banyak you.... InsyaAllah). Tired but worth every sweat and hardship. You think its easy? Actually kind of easylah... hehehe. but when you do it continuously for 2hrs straight... you'll feel the strain.

Last year was bout 40 odd sheeps. This year was 70 odd sheeps...

All ended by noon prayers (Zohor). Thereafter followed by a feast of freshly cooked Mutton Briyani. Yummy...

(31 Dec, pm)

Countdown? Nolah....

Went volunteering again. This time for the submission of photographs for the Eye ē City event. Ended till 1am on 1 Jan 07!

Reached home exhausted and tired... but enjoyed every minute of it...

1 Jan

Attended briefing for another volunteer event. The Inter Faith Dinner at Singapore Expo. Volunteered my services since a friend had called asking for more manpower for this event.

2 Jan

Volunteer at Inter Faith Dinner at Singapore Expo. Become Usher.

Just help lah... had fun along the way. But tired lah....

.......................................................................

On reflection. i enjoyed spending the time helping people. At the same time learning new things and putting smiles onto the faces of those i helped.

My resolution is to be happy. i'm done, making other people happy. This time i owe it to myself to make me happy...

Yawn..... (its 2330... tom working)

hiya

happened to saw this blog while doing some internet search.

i like to check if its worthwhile to check out kampong glam? *Paya Lebar) for tourist?

is this year lightings nicer than previous years?

actually i'm a singaporean but havent been to there too! hehehe. is it worth checking out? m,y location is ang mo kio area so its pretty far away to go all the way. i'm thinking of bringing foreign friends over to check things out.

during chinese new yr, chinatown sells almost the same types of foods/deco when i went there. nothing fanastic. so only went 2x so far.

for paya lebar, will it be like chinatown? or varieties will varies? whats the recommended foods only available at this time round? i cannot take beef. what foods i must defintely avoid? pls give me the malay name of the food. Thanks!

Regards
Jen

Hi Jen,

geylang is lit up every year and IT IS a tourist destination. the lightings are getting grander every year and the location for shopping has increased in size.

It would be of an opportune time to visit geylang as you've got exactly ONE WEEK from today before they close shop permanently for Hari Raya.

The variety of food also varies. if cannot take beef, there are others which are of other meat. fish, mutton, scallops etc. u name it. they have it. If yu wanna lists of food to try or avoid, then its gonna be a very long lists. What i suggest is for you to have a visual feast and to try wat looks tasty. Of cos you can ask first the food you're going to buy. People are generous with answers. But do ask the young ones as most of the older sellers are not so forthcoming with answers and more into selling.

Wats nice? well... almost everything. or would i say, depends on wat u crave that day.

You'll take more than 2 hours walking and stopping, shopping. for a more festive atmosphere, go around 8 - 11 pm.

Cheers!

Hiya!

Thanks for the review. Sounds very interesting and happening. I shall check out with my friend later in the morning. Maybe going later (Saturday) night. As for asking the stall owners..... must pray that they are willing to help or have the time/'hands' to help during peak hours. hehe

I didnt even know there's scallops! waaaaaaa very 'new' to me! Thanks for the reply. Really in time to encourage me to go take a look.
